How to Apply: Neurological Surgery Residency

All applications must be submitted through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS). Information can be found on their website.
All applications are reviewed in early fall and a select group of applicants will be invited for interviews. If you need any other information regarding our program, you may contact our Residency Coordinator, Amy Johnson, at ajohnson1@bsd.uchicago.edu or 773-834-0685. Please do not fax or email any application documents. All should be submitted to ERAS for proper processing.

Application Requirements:
- ERAS Application
- A Minimum of Three Letters of Recommendation
- Medical School Transcripts
- Curriculum Vitae (ERAS generated CV)
- USMLE Transcript
- Personal Statement
- ECFMG Certificate (if applicable)
All applicants must be authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis as of the program start date. If sponsorship is needed, J-1 visas are preferred.
Interviews for the 2026 Match cycle will be held the following Wednesdays: October 8th, 2025, November 12th, 2025, and December 3rd, 2025. Interviews are by invitation only. As part of the interview process, there is a dinner with the residents the night before your scheduled interview date. Details of the dinner the night before and the interview day will be provided upon confirmation of your interview date.
Trainees who are not U.S. Citizens nor Green Card holders, must be ECFMG certified and eligible to apply for the appropriate visa before beginning a residency or fellowship program at the University of Chicago Medical Center. J-1 visas are preferred. You should have already taken and passed the USMLE Steps 1 and 2. You are required to submit the application information above to ERAS.
